Hands carefully shaping wood with traditional tools

The Katachi Process

From Concept
to Heirloom

A five-stage journey of intentional design and masterful craftsmanship

Slow Design, Lasting Value

Every Katachi piece follows a deliberate path from first conversation to final installation. We don't rush. We don't cut corners. We craft with intention.

This process typically spans 8-12 weeks, though timelines vary based on project complexity. What doesn't change is our commitment to excellence at every stage.

01

Discovery & Consultation

We begin by understanding your space, lifestyle, and vision. Through in-depth conversations and site visits, we uncover the essence of what you need—not just what you think you want.

What's Included:

  • Initial consultation (in-person or virtual)
  • Space assessment and measurements
  • Lifestyle and functional needs analysis
  • Material preference exploration
  • Budget and timeline discussion

02

Concept & Design

Armed with insights from discovery, we translate your vision into detailed sketches and 3D renderings. This is where your story begins to take physical form.

What's Included:

  • Hand-drawn conceptual sketches
  • 3D digital renderings and visualizations
  • Material and finish selection
  • Detailed technical drawings
  • Design revisions and refinements

Material Sourcing

We hand-select every piece of wood, considering grain pattern, color, and character. Our commitment to sustainability means every material is ethically sourced and FSC-certified.

What's Included:

  • FSC-certified wood selection
  • Grain pattern matching
  • Natural finish and oil selection
  • Hardware sourcing (handcrafted when possible)
  • Quality inspection of all materials

04

Craftsmanship

This is where tradition meets precision. Using time-honored joinery techniques and modern tools, we handcraft each piece in our Pacific Northwest workshop.

What's Included:

  • Traditional joinery (mortise & tenon, dovetails)
  • Hand-planing and finishing
  • Multiple quality checkpoints
  • Natural oil and wax finishing
  • Final assembly and inspection

Your piece arrives carefully packaged and is installed with the same attention to detail that went into its creation. We ensure it integrates seamlessly into your space.

What's Included:

  • Professional white-glove delivery
  • Expert installation and placement
  • Final adjustments and alignment
  • Care and maintenance guidance
  • Lifetime craftsmanship warranty
